|Since its inception in November 2010, Footprint Awards has been the barometer for sustainability and responsible business practice in the foodservice sector. Over the last seven years we have seen the level of corporate performance in this area change beyond recognition; something Footprint is very proud to have been a catalyst of.
Today, the pillars of sustainability and responsible business are accepted as clear principles in organisations up and down the supply chain, but the goal posts move constantly. What even five years ago was regarded as foresighted innovation is today regarded as the bare minimum and it is no surprise that it is the most successful businesses that have embraced the concept, changed behaviour, and are now leading the way towards a more sustainable and responsible industry.
The issues remain the same - finite resources, diminishing in the face of an expanding population. Food and water security, energy and climate are just some of the concerns amongst sustainability’s many environmental, social and economic facets; each one with an eye to the future at its heart. Add to that the social sustainability agenda which is rising ever more to the fore; the impact we are having on our constituents’ health, the living wage, gender, diversity, apprenticeships and sustainability in education.
Footprint Awards represents the annual celebration of the work that organisations in the foodservice industry and its supply chain are doing to in some way redress the balance for the benefit of themselves, their community and the industry at large. It is a celebration of initiative and innovation, of commercial imagination and endeavour that recognises those organisations leading the way.
These awards are open to businesses of all sizes and a glance at 2016’s winners will give you an idea of the inclusive and diverse nature of the organisations participating. Entries are judged by a panel of specialists in sustainability and foodservice so if you are an organisation that is proud of an initiative or achievement in this field we would urge you to enter.
